DAT Group Ltd

 

I joined the DAT Group as a Systems Engineer / DBA working as part of a managed service that they provide to the largest holiday company in the U.K. The main purpose of the role is to maintain multi-domain NT infrastructure, which equates 700 + servers distributed throughout the U.K. One of the domains on the network is one of the largest in the UK with approximately 600 BDC’s and a user base of 5000.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Management of the SQL Server Infrastructure, including replication of reference data.
  • Creating business critical financial reports both scheduled and Ad-hoc. 
  • Manipulation and loading data from third party sources
  • Daily Monitoring – Backups, consistency checks and automated data updates.
  • Design and implementation of Shell scripts to automate configuration changes, run SQL queries and monitor the health of the servers across the network.
  • Develop and maintain MS Access applications.  
  • Administration and development of the intranet used by the team of DBA’s
  • Support and maintenance of the Compaq servers.  
  • Support the custom booking application used across the company in all of its 600 shops.

Dudley Bower Services Ltd.

 

I started with Dudley Bower Services as an IT Support Assistant, a position that I held for 18 months. I was then promoted to Systems Administrator with overall responsibility for the IT systems within company.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·         Responding to and solving support calls made by the company employees.

·         Supporting and maintaining the servers, workstations and laptops.

·         Supporting and maintaining the Microsoft Exchange e-mail system.

·         Supporting and maintaining the Citrix Metaframe system. 

·         Evaluation purchase and licensing of new hardware and software.

·         Administering the daily backups in case of the need for disaster recovery.

·         Supporting and developing the Microsoft Access Database applications.

·         Supporting and maintaining the Oracle 7.3.4 database backend to Maximo.

·         Part of the project team that rolled out Exchange 

 

 

Voluntary Work:

 

The design, development and maintenance of the website for a local primary school, which can be viewed at http://www.downs-way.surrey.sch.uk/. Assisting with the maintenance and support of the internal I.T. infrastructure within the school.
